Myotonic dystrophy affects not only the muscles, but many other body functions, and it can affect all age groups. Because so many systems can be affected, management requires a more expansive approach than most disorders and care is best provided by a coordinated, multidisciplinary team. We therefore offer the opportunity to evaluate all relevant aspects during a short-term hospital admission, if appropriate. This prevents the patient from travelling to and from the hospital several times.

All healthcare providers will be able to see the patient during the admission, such as a neurologist, clinical geneticist, cardiologist, pulmonologist, physiatrist, physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech and swallowing therapist, and dietician.
For more information, see the brochure ‘myotonic dystrophy and screening‘ (in Dutch).
